501st Taiwan Outpost Bicycle Riding in Taipei 2009 International Car Free Day

Nature of Event

The waste gas produced by vehicles aggravates the green house effect and damages global environment severely as well. Besides that, the critical damage is how much harm waste gas endanger respirator system of human beings. In modern times, transporting by cars and owning cars has become quite common for every household. We have been hurting the environment unconsciously. Therefore, France first held the activity of ”In town , without my car”, on Sep 22nd , 1998. European Union decided to promote this idea of “Car Free Day”to other countries in 2001 and expand to the idea of ”European Mobility Week”. It is expected to arouse the awareness of environment protection at every city in the world. Till 2008, there are 2102 cities supporting this idea worldwide and related activities are held over five continents world widely. Taipei city, as a member of international “Car Free city” association, has owned a brand-new city feature in recent years because of Taipei citizens’ strong concern of quality life and its international perspective of cultivation development.

Taipei city government executed the traffic control in the downtown business areas on the Chunghsiao East Rd. on 19th September, for promoting a new leisure style of “LOHAS Without Car”. People walked, rided bikes or took the MRT and bus to support the idea of “Green Transport” and in to reduce carbon dioxide release and save energy for the Earth. Taipei citizens were encouraged to participant this campaign on the Chunghsiao East Rd. on 19th September for personal business, shopping or pleasure and enjoy the comforts by “Car Free”.

501st Taiwan Outpost was once again invited by the Taipei City governement to "storm" this event. Rather then the ordinary trooping or marching mission that had two feet on ground for most of the time, two members from the outpost had their fresh experience by took up the challenge...

- Ready to Go ! -
At 9:30am, TK6509 Ken arrived to the house of CO Roy for preparation. ID6192 arrived to the house at 10:00am for helping. The two members of 501st Taiwan in full armor were ready to go at 11:00am

- Stormtroopers riding bicycle -
From 11:00am to 12:15pm, the two members of 501st Taiwan in full armor was easily become the hot attraction at mission site! Not only proved that the full armor imperial stormtroopers could ride bicycle but could also do bicycle tricks like single hand/wheel riding! In this one hour and 15 minutes of mission, TK9428 JMS arrived with full supports.

- Rest -
Those imperial Stormtroopers are not robots like most of the Chinese kids refering to...from 12:15pm to 12:45, the two "Space white knight superman" took rest at the sidewalk of mission site.

- Bicycle Parade Rally -
From 12:45pm to 13:45pm, 501st Taiwan followed the schedule by leading all the cyclist team to circle the event site on bicycle, the judging of numourous bicycle theme competition was took place at this time. TD 5386 joined in street cloth at this activity with full support.

- Rest Again -
From 13:45pm to 14:15pm, the two "Space white knight superman" had their rest at the sidewalk of mission site again.

- The 3rd Prize -
501st Taiwan had the honor that won the 3rd place of the best costume cyclist! The award - NTD$2,000 (USD$60).
