Dear bro Roy and the rest of my fellow COs.

Here again is the reply of Mary just now after I sent my reply to her and you early this morning.

Thank you, Manny! I look forward to working with you and Roy and all the troops!

I would like clarify our thoughts in this post. I would like to avoid any misunderstanding.
As promised, we do share all the information that we receive especially from Steve and Mary and here is the latest, above and the other mails below (in full).

I share the respect for ALL the asian COs in this circle and I value everyone's opinions that's why we are listening intently.

Did I do something without asking for your opinion? Is there anything wrong with waiting for additional instructions from the Legion Commander? We should look at the situation from multiple sides and approaches.

1. Mary does assign troops for shows and errands. Mary also facilitates the relationship of the volunteers with the organizers. For sure a number of our brothers and sisters in Japan, Australia etc. will be organized like us and they wiill be given assignments. The task is huge for sure.

2. Our Legion also gives assignments. A number of activities are prepared within the Legion level and it is shared among other volunteering members. Our legion is also a fangroup that also promotes itself in events like Celebration by implementing its unique activities. This task is also huge.

At the start of our emails, we said that we don't want to be left out. That is why I am providing examples of volunteering activities that our south east asian members can choose from and have fun.
We are always given the choice on which activity and commitee to join in so that we can perform well.

If we could have the information from both sides of LFL and 501st, our members will benefit from it. It will make going to CJ a more pleasant experience.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I also ask you to let me do my job.

bbeer Cheers bro.
With lots of respect always,
Manny

Hi Mary,

That was the group's consensus, that I would be acting as liaison. Having seen what its like in C3 and C4 was one of the reasons.

Having other members lending a helping hand like Roy will be highly appreciated since the task to delegate is big.

We are also waiting for Mark Fordham's instructions or reply about the 501st's role, particularly that many of the experienced members from the US may not be able to travel to CJ.

Best Regards to you and Steve,

Manny

Correct me if I am wrong, from your's rapid reply, guess I am the one to be in charged at your service (Mary's elite force) according to your agenda...ITS MY HONOR!

Due to the fact that I also understand Paul, Peter, Manny and Kwok are willingly "to be involved". So please kindly include all 5 of us in the correspondence on this topic.

With 501st Japan , now both of you and Steve got a whole six out of total eight Asian 501st units at yours' service.

Dear Mr. Sansweet and Ms Franklin,

Yesterday, all of our Asian 501st units are exciting about the official announcement concerning Celebration Japan since the first e-mail you had mentioned to us during Jan 29th of last year and my private phone call with you. Our expectation for a full year had feedback finally!

Though titled as Celebration " Japan " rather then Celebration " Asia ", our Asian 501st units namely Singapore Garrison, Taiwan Outpost, Malaysia-Brunei Outpost, Hong Kong Outpost and Philippine Outpost are ready to provide our voluntary helps and contributions to make the Clebration wonderful and did proud to our world-wide legion.

Through this once in a life time official celebration in Asia, we mean to bring the hype of Star Wars not only in the area of Japan but also to the fans of our respective Asian countries.

We just had confrence through phone calls, e-mails and skype couple of hours ago, we are moving on the logistic of how we can contribute. We have also proposed Manny Mendoza, the CO of 501st Philippine Outpost as our lead to communicate with you and Mary of how we can contribute in CJ.

Please kindly let us and our LCO Mark aware if our beloved LFL need our extra works at CJ.

Best

Paul & all--

As Mary said, we are very excited about the possibilities of the Asian Garrisons and Outposts of the 501st working closely together to make the whole much greater than the sum of the parts. I'm sorry we haven't been able to get back to you quicker, but Mary and I have been on the road. We just got back from London where we were planning Celebration Europe.

As for the local Singapore office of Lucasfilm Animation Singapore, they are a brand new operation as you know, are not familiar with the 501st, and don't really have any PR, marketing or fan relations functions. So even though they are close, we still need you to deal with us. Mary and I will be happy to act as go-betweens, because we think it would be wonderful to have you guys go over and meet the great people there.

Also as Mary said, we are just totally out of bandwidth to help in the planning or approvals of any sort of official show this year in Asia, although we have been talking to several interested parties about a possible official Celebration Asia in Japan in 2008--30 years from when the movie opened there. However, we'd be happy to respond and give you our feedback on any non-official events you want to plan for this year. Because Celebration IV is May 24 to 28 and Celebration Europe is July 13 to15, we would not be happy with any major events in the weeks before C IV or before CE, since we are hoping to get at least some Star Wars fans from Asia to both events.

Please all stay in touch!

Best,

Steve

Bro. Manny,

I am afraid you miss the point, I apologize of if thats what from my posts. I am speaking the concern from the Skype conference last night with Peter and Paul, my brother. We should be open here, right?

No one had blame you not open to us, just the fact that the voluntary contribution of us are in different case here, you did already saw how the demand would be for sponsorship of voluntary contribution from Pater and Paul, they are not speaking for themselves but are actual fact that reflect from their unit members in their unit forum.

I personally have the full heart for unconditional voluntary contribution but I couldn't speak for my unit members as well and actually from the fact already shown in other section of this forum, $ are also their first concern even by simply joinning CJ for non voluntary contribution ever mentioned! I had 17 members brother and Monday night I just had debate with my XO Peggy for voluntary contribution then simply join as attendee. I will let you do your job and ideal if I am the only person in my unit.

One fact you might take into consideration of why 4 of our unit members didn't ever join CIV or CIII in the past. Ring any bell? wink

Manny Mendoza 寫到:

Thanks for all the encouragement. I also ask you to let me do my job.

Bro. Manny, please don't treat our voice as not letting you to do your job, since your job has to fully consider and understand our situation of the one whom can correctly represent us. Your such tone just like your previous request "I request everyone here in this "circle" to disregard the thought of some compensation or such equivalent from the event organizers." . If you go on the way like this, it seems like you are going on your personal agenda of what we should do then really represent us as liason.

Case are different here and we are talking about voluntary works then simply as attendee in CJ. I think you understand our special conditions for voluntary contribution at first place so I propose you as leading role on such topic brother...

I just couldn't let you do your job without my unit CO voice being represented. The worse will only be that I ask Mary I act as liason for the voluntary contribution to CJ of 501st Taiwan Outpost. Even to this worse case, I still wouldn't have other thought to our friendship simply because you and me have different opinions deal with 501st matters smile

So at this stage before any further specific intrustions you received from Mary, please kindly stop your liason of communication about the topic of voluntary contribution to Mary or Mark before you fully understand our special situation. We actually won't need to have such private communication of forum nor private e-mails if goes to Mark's instruction for planning of voluntary contribution works from the beginging.

Manny, I still have fainth that you understand our special case on voluntary contribution in CJ. So at this moment, I still treat you as liason that include me.

Thank you Bro Roy for the clarification, I agree more with you just as always.

It was my mistake to state the wordings that you indicated above about "disregard to think about compensation" because I have no copy of the stipulation to show and explain to everyone yet until last night.

I must apologize for my expression. It is difficult to express in writing than when we talk. English is difficult for me as well. But my intention was to say just be careful.

I also accept your apology because I also misunderstand what you wrote and I sympathize that this issue is difficult to express without speaking in our native language. I know we want to express in a friendly manner but writing sends out different emotions.

Let us overcome this communication and language barrier and mend our friendships. It is more important and is in the spirit rather than problems of trooping. abwavey

Exactly Manny! Now is the fact the spirit of you and me are so different then the rest of five Asian 501st and even to my own unit members about voluntary contribution works in CJ. Hope you understand.

Indeed, I suppose to call you about our Skype conference of last night but replies to your posts here may just do fine. abwavey

I can assure that Manny undertsand well the special case of sponsorship about our voluntary contribution and he will definitely represent our need to Mary of LFL. Manny's spirit for Asian 501st united and bring proud both to our legion and hype of Star Wars should not be doubt.

I have to say sorry that its the sickness from my job that I particularly sensitive on wordings of expression. abwavey

Right from the latest developments, I can see that the proposed arrangement from Roy as Mary Franklin's liaison and Manny as Steve Sansweet's liaison is now SUPERSEDED. So it is Manny Mendoza who is the single liaison between our 5 Asian 501st Garrisons and Outposts with LFL, namely Mary Franklin and Steve Sansweet.

Let's keep it at one point of contact, which is Manny, to LFL (Steve & Mary) and to LCO Mark (if necessary). I'm happy with this arrangement.

Let's have regular weekend skype calls, perhaps this Sat 1st Mar at 10.00 pm. Jacky, hope that you'll be able to join us on the call. (Aside to Jacky and Manny, could you post up your skype ID pls. I'll host the call and add you guys in)

In order to volunteer, one has to be in Japan, which comes at a cost. The number of volunteers you get will determine to a great extent, what activities you can put on or do. It's a vicious cycle but it all boils down to one thing - expenses. Like Peter said somewhere, if it were a fully expense paid, you'll have no end of volunteers stepping forward. Help in covering the cost would go some way in making it easier to get volunteers.

I promise that this is the last time that I'll touch on this topic but my Garrison troops are all complaining about the costs. I know for a fact that this is not an isolated case as others across countries feel the same way too. I'm not suggesting that we be paid. All I'm saying is we ask if LFL needs volunteers, will they be giving any assistence financially to help defray costs. If they say no, that's fine too. I just need an answer to go back to my troopers to let them know - one way or another.

The heart is willing but the purse is week.

Jacky and Manny have both pointed out that LCO Mark is the acting CO of the Japanese Garrison which is also the host Garrison. Up to now, we have not heard anything from Mark on this subject. I find that a little strange. Do you guys feel that Mark needs to be engaged on this topic or just kicked in the butt a little to see if we get a response?

Cheers mates

bbeer

Good Evening guys,

LCO Mark has just posted in the Legion Council forums. Please check it out.
We can safely say that the volunteer programs will soon be announced.
We would have something more concrete to explain to our members.

My sympathy to the situation stated by bro Peter and Paul as well as to your members. It is also the same situation with some of my members, RL and even the other local Star Wars fans. Bro Roy has said the same thing about TW and I guess bro Jacky would probably have the case with HK. It is a crucial undertaking to spend close to over 1000$ for just a few days.

Let us keep tuned. I promised to post any information that Mary gives us as well.

Manny, I'm in full agreement with what Paul has posted as he as summarised what we (Roy, Paul and myself) have emphasised on our last SKYPE session.

The sooner we hear from Mary Franklin concerning the Celebration Japan - LFL Volunteer package, the better we can have a full discussion with every member of our respective 501st Garrisons and Outpost.

I got similar feedback from my team. If there will not be any assistence financially, even if they go, they will go as fans only but not as volunteer. At the end of the day, why should they sacrifice themselves from all the interesting events and exclusive merchandises if they need to pay as much as anyone.

Good Morning bros. The charity trooping last night was a success. I am now at work in my office, taking some minutes to post in our forum.

Thanks Bro Jacky for the feedback from your members.

Fellow COs,

Here is my suggestion for the skype meeting agenda: Just 2 major items

1. To be able to forward the concern of south east asian members to Mary about the volunteer package program, please give an estimate of :

a) How many are going to CJ just as fans with armor and who are going without armor?
b) How many are willing to volunteer based on CIV volunteer stipulation conditions?
c) How many are undecided?
d) How many are going to CJ just as fans on their own expense but are willing to give a couple of hours to assist in the 501st?

After which we can probably compose a letter and send it by email.

2. 501st activities that members have interest to join in.

Bros I think that you are aware that at least a few members from our 5 units are somehow willing to volunteer, some of them even unconditionally. At this point, those few members have to be prepared for certain commitees to join into.

Can we start with looking into 2 activities, maximum 3? I agree with Bro Paul "not to overpromise".
Mary hinted that she is waiting for our consensus on 501st activities. Our suggestions will be merged with japan, australia and other volunteering groups.

*** Bros, apparently, as today is my wife's birthday, my inlaws have decided to have a special dinner to celebrate tonight. As a consequence, I would not be sure of joining skype meeting so I suggest that we can do it on sunday instead. I am available from 6pm till 10pm on March 2.
I will be able to download Skype program tonight to be ready for use by sunday.

Hoping for your comments and suggestions smile

I admire you for having again the advanced discussion with Warner thumbs
The Clone Wars matter has to be initiated by the 501st like you because the film distributor doesn't know about LFL's way of working.
Right now here, we are also finding a way to make Warner sit down and talk with us. The local warner here has a not so good reputation of not working with fans so easily.

Good Luck
